If you’re in possession of a cannabis card, then you’re hopefully aware of some of the benefits it entitles you to. One of these benefits is that, in most cases, you’re allowed to smoke medical cannabis wherever regular smoking is acceptable. While this is good news (if that’s your preferred method of imbibing MMJ), a lot of folk prefer not to smoke it, and instead they choose to consume MMJ edibles.
Medical marijuana can and is used in lots of recipes these days: sweet, savory, starters, soups, main courses …. you name it. They are all known as MMJ edibles. If you choose to consume medical marijuana via food then of course, unlike smoking, you can do it anywhere. No one can tell you that you’re not allowed to eat your special brownie or piece of cake in a confined space where you might cause offense to ‘non-brownie’ eaters!
Brownies Aren’t the Only Way to Consume Medical Marijuana
Most people think that MMJ brownies are the only snack available to them. While they are very popular (and ever so tasty), brownies are by no means the only way of consuming cannabis. These days, the more portable edibles come in many different forms, including cookies, cake, chocolate bars and sweets. You can buy them from any online licensed sites or from your local cannabis clinics and dispensaries, providing you have a medical marijuana card.
MMJ edibles are god to keep in the house for when you need them, or just to carry around with you to have wherever and whenever you want. Another bonus is that it’s a much more discreet way of getting your hit than smoking medical marijuana (if this is a concern to you).
What You Should Know About Medical Marijuana Edibles
Remember that it will take longer to get the MMJ into your system via food – generally between 30 minutes to an hour – but once its’ there, it does stay longer. Depending on the amount you take, the effect can last between 4 and 12 hours. Also, you don’t need such a high dosage in food as you do for smoking the stuff.
If you’re new to edibles, make sure you know how much you’re taking. State laws require that packaging displays the amount of THC content. 10 milligrams of THC counts as one serving – but if you’re of small stature or a slight build, this might be too much. Start off with 5 milligrams and see how you go.
Remember to wait for the effects to kick in. Many people who consume rather than smoke cannabis report that it gives a gentler and more relaxing high. It’s been described as a complete body high rather than just a head high.
All About MMJ Edibles
Some of the awesome edibles available to you these days include pineapple delight bites, sea salt caramel bon bons, glazed pecans, truffles and marshmallows. Check them out online or in your local dispensary! There are many more to choose from so you can have fun finding your favorite.
If you’re into baking, why not source a few simple recipes to have under your belt? As a cannabis card holder, one of the benefits that you may not be aware of is that you’re allowed to grow up to 100 square feet of your own marijuana plants.
The introduction of Proposition 64, which comes into effect next year legalizing the use of marijuana in California for recreational purposes, means that anyone will be allowed to grow up to 6 plants in their own home. But imagine how many more you can grow in 100 square feet! And once you grow it, you can choose to smoke it and/or use it in all sorts of edible ways.
If you decide to make your own edibles, it’s important to remember that your medical marijuana has to be heated with some form of fat to make canna oil or cannabutter. You can’t just use raw cannabis in your recipes, as our digestive system is not up to processing the THC.
When cannabis is cooked, the THC is released and binds together with the fat, thereby making it processable and thus acceptable by your body. You can make your own cannabutter of canna oil, or you can purchase it from a registered dispensary using your California medical card.
MMJ Edibles are not just things you eat – you can have a liquid edible, too! This refers to any drink that has been infused with cannabinoids (an invention that’s becoming increasingly popular in California). There’s cannabis tea of course, but did you know that there’s a cannabis root beer available that will knock your socks off in more ways than one. Check it out!
If you’re not yet in possession of a cannabis card and would like to find out more about the process, it’s easy to get all the details and to apply for your medical marijuana card online. Check out here how to do it. If you do qualify for a California marijuana card, it will be mailed to you, and you can then immediately start reaping the rewards.
