How Oklahoma Became The US’s Biggest MMJ Market In Just 3 Years

The Oklahoma medical marijuana industry has gone from strength to strength in the three short years since its inception. Oklahoma MMJ news has been positive from the beginning. Large numbers of OK residents are benefitting from medical marijuana treatment, and MMJ is also bringing massive economic benefits to the Sooner State.

Oklahoma legalized medical marijuana in the summer of 2018. Since then, the OK MMJ industry has grown very quickly – in fact, it’s now one of the largest and most profitable in the entire US. A major reason why the Oklahoma MMJ industry has grown so large is that the Sooner State now has the US’s biggest MMJ market on a per capita basis.

How Oklahoma Became The US’s Biggest MMJ Market

Oklahoma became the US’s biggest MMJ market on a per capita basis rapidly, due to several factors. The MMJ program in Oklahoma is liberal and patient-friendly. There is less red tape clogging the system than in other states. Medical marijuana businesses in OK have become very profitable, and this has increased positive sentiment towards MMJ in OK.

Image by Jon Grogan on Unsplash: How did Oklahoma become the US’s biggest MMJ market?

Here are some of the key factors that have resulted in Oklahoma becoming the US’s biggest MMJ market in just three years…

Oklahoma Has A Freedom-Loving Population

The Oklahoma population has long had a pro-free market, pro-entrepreneur, pro-freedom, and pro-small government ethos. Oklahomans are generally distrustful of too much federal government interference.

This freedom-loving ethos has made setting up an MMJ business in Oklahoma relatively easy and has been a big factor in allowing the OK MMJ market to grow without interference from state authorities.

The Oklahoma Public Is Supportive Of The State’s MMJ Industry

In 2018, 57% of Oklahomans voted to legalize medical marijuana. Since legalization, support for the OK MMJ program has grown further amongst the population. Most Oklahomans know somebody who is benefitting massively from MMJ, either in terms of their health or finances. This strong public support has helped Oklahoma become the US’s biggest MMJ market.

Oklahoma MMJ Is A Very Effective Treatment For Many Medical Conditions

A big reason that Oklahoma has become such a large medical marijuana market is that MMJ provides very effective treatment for several painful and debilitating medical conditions. Oklahomans avail of MMJ treatment to alleviate the symptoms of illnesses such as:

  • Arthritis
  • Cancer
  • Chronic pain
  • Depression
  • Epilepsy
  • Glaucoma
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Migraine
  • Muscle spasms
  • Insomnia

MMJ Has Lessened Oklahoma’s Opioid Problems

Like many other US states, Oklahoma has had problems with opioid addiction over the last few decades. The legalization of medical marijuana in Oklahoma gave people another option. A lot of people who had relied on painkillers and opioids to get through the day prior to MMJ legalization have benefitted massively from MMJ and have been able to stop using opioids.

Oklahoma Has No Official List Of MMJ Qualifying Conditions

Unlike every other legal MMJ state, Oklahoma has no list of official qualifying conditions. MMJ doctors in OK are able to prescribe MMJ for any conditions that they believe will benefit from MMJ treatment. This has been a big factor in the huge growth of the Oklahoma MMJ market.

Oklahoma Has A Lot Of Great MMJ Dispensaries

So, how many dispensaries are in Oklahoma in 2021? At last count, there were over 2,000 dispensaries in Oklahoma, the most of any US state. And not only does OK have a lot of dispensaries, but it also has some of the best dispensaries in the nation.

Oklahoma dispensaries sell a wide range of high-quality products, many of which are not available elsewhere, including:

  • Marijuana flower
  • Pre-rolls
  • Edibles
  • Drinks
  • Lotions
  • Vapes
  • Tinctures
Image by gjbmiller on Pixabay: How many dispensaries are in Oklahoma in 2021?

Oklahoma Practices Reciprocity

A final reason why Oklahoma’s MMJ market is so large is that it practices reciprocity by allowing out-of-state MMJ cardholders to hold a Temporary Patient license, which enables them to purchase Oklahoma MMJ while they are visiting the state.

Will Oklahoma Go Recreational In 2021?

There are no plans for Oklahoma to go recreational in 2021. However, a ballot is being prepared by marijuana activists in the state that will propose legalizing recreational marijuana in 2022.

How Can Oklahomans Get An MMJ Card?

You can get an MMJ card in Oklahoma by going to the MMJRecs online clinic and having a video consultation with an OK MMJ doctor. Once the doctor verifies you, they will sign your OMMA form online.

From Amendment 2 to $21M: Why Missouri Just Had a Record-Breaking MMJ Sales Month

Missouri’s record-breaking MMJ sales month has further confirmed the need (and demand!) for medical marijuana in the state. Missouri sold $21.03 million worth of medical marijuana in July 2021 alone, which puts 2021 revenue at just over $91 million at the time of writing. Along with the added revenue, more manufacturers, dispensaries, and facilities also opened in the same month. This staggering success of the medical marijuana business in Missouri has come a long way from the humble beginnings it had following its legalization.

It’s thought that the reason for this huge economic success is a result of patient access. Patients in Missouri don’t have to drive far to get access to their medication, prices of medical cannabis are being lowered, and the selection of available products is growing. The record sales are driven by these factors, and the industry is doing more than just helping patients with approved medical conditions find relief from their disorders. It is also creating jobs and giving medical marijuana companies in Missouri the opportunity to invest directly into their communities.

The Missouri medical marijuana journey

The Missouri government took a vote on Amendment 2, otherwise known as the Medical Marijuana and Veteran Healthcare Services Initiative, in 2018. After the bill was passed, the medical marijuana industry began taking steps to make cannabis accessible to patients with approved conditions.

In the short time that MMJ has been legal, the state has made exponential gains in revenue. A report by the Motley Fool has projected that Missouri’s total revenue from medical marijuana from its program’s inception to the end of 2021 may be just under $200 million.

What qualifies for a medical marijuana card in Missouri?

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, there is a variety of approved conditions that can grant people access to the use of medical marijuana. Those conditions include:

  • Cancer
  • Epilepsy
  • Glaucoma
  • Treatment-resistant migraines
  • Conditions that cause persistent pain or muscle spasms such as Parkinson’s disease, seizures, Multiple Sclerosis, and Tourette’s syndrome
  • Psychiatric disorders that are debilitating in nature, including post-traumatic stress disorder
  • HIV or acquired immune deficiency syndrome
  • Chronic medical conditions that could lead to a medication dependence, whether physical or psychological
  • Terminal illnesses
  • Other conditions such as hepatitis C, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, Huntington’s disease, autism, and others at the discretion of a physician

How much can you buy from a dispensary at a time in Missouri?

People living in Missouri with an MMJ card can purchase a variety of cannabis products such as edibles or dried flower. However, there are limits to the amount each patient can purchase at a time.

These limits are put in place to ensure that MMJ users are getting the appropriate doses of their medication – no more and no less. In Missouri, laws have been put into place stating that people who are approved to purchase medical marijuana have monthly limits. That means that over the course of a month, MMJ card holders can only possess so much MMJ, whether they purchase small amounts throughout the month or in bulk at the beginning of the month.

The limit on monthly amounts for patients in Missouri is 4 ounces, with an overall Missouri medical equivalency unit (MMEs) of no more than 32. This means that during the course of the month a person cannot get more than 32 MMEs or more than 4 ounces. An example on the Missouri government website states that 1 MME is equivalent to 3.5 grams of medical marijuana, 1 gram of marijuana concentrate, or 100 mg of THC-infused product. These will all be calculated together to ensure that a person does not go over their limit for the month.

Is it easy to get a medical card in Missouri?

Applying for a medical marijuana card is not a difficult process in Missouri. First, a person must be diagnosed with a qualifying condition and a certified physician must fill out a form for the qualifying patient to submit. Once the form is filled out and submitted, patients can complete their application by registering with the Complia application portal. After the person has completed registration, they can complete their application. The state department has up to 30 days to process the submitted applications, and this is done on a first-come first-serve basis.

With the sheer amount of revenue being made, the state of Missouri has been left in no doubt of the success of its MMJ program. According to reports, roughly 135,000 Missouri patients and caregivers have been approved to use medical marijuana to help chronic and debilitating health conditions, and the Missouri MMJ industry is only expected to continue its growth.

7 Reasons Why The MMJ Market In Florida Is Booming During Coronavirus

A lot of businesses have been hurt by the coronavirus pandemic that’s swept across the country. Closures ranging from restaurants and movie theaters to gyms and stadiums have all resulted in business downturn and profit losses.

But there’s one business that has actually grown during the lockdown period. The medical marijuana (MMJ) market in some places in the US has actually expanded considerably. In Florida, for example, the government has been able to fully support the MMJ market by still allowing patients to apply for MMJ cards and keeping MMJ dispensaries up and running.

Here are seven reasons why the MMJ market in Florida is booming during coronavirus.

1. People are spending more time at home

Most states in the US have experienced at least some kind of stay-at-home order or forced quarantine. Millions of people found themselves out of work – either by losing their jobs or being furloughed. That means that the amount of home/leisure time many people have has increased significantly.

More time at home means individuals can use their MMJ products more frequently, particularly if they aren’t going to work. There’s just more time and freedom to use MMJ products while stuck at home.

2. MMJ dispensaries have stayed open

Unlike a lot of other businesses that shut down during lockdown, dispensaries have been deemed “essential businesses”.

This means that being able to buy MMJ in Florida is considered a necessity, and that patients have been able to get access to their MMJ products despite the other local closures.

3. Dispensaries are delivering

Because MMJ dispensaries have remained open, many locations have offered delivery options or curbside pickup for their customers.

These special services mean that people who rely on their MMJ products for health reasons don’t have to worry about not being able to get what they need during the pandemic.

4. Stimulus checks might make MMJ more affordable

More and more Americans have seen their stimulus checks arriving, which means they might have a little more money to spend on the MMJ products that are essential for their health.

Having a little more income might help with MMJ patients who were worried about going without their cannabis during this stressful time.

5. There’s more anxiety during the pandemic

Most Americans have been experiencing an increase in anxiety because of the uncertain nature of COVID-19 and its effects.

Folks who have MMJ cards are potentially spending more money on MMJ products that can help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and make them feel a little calmer.

6. People are relying more on MMJ for treatments

While it’s still difficult for some people to make it to in-person offices for medical treatment, they can turn to MMJ products instead to treat their symptoms. For example, if a patient typically ventures out to an acupuncturist for help with their chronic pain, they might have needed to stop those appointments while everyone has been on lockdown.

However, they can count on using MMJ products to still treat their pain until they can resume acupuncture sessions in the future. Having MMJ products on hand can mean a reduction in symptoms.

7. There have been studies suggesting that cannabis might treat coronavirus

While the connection between cannabis and coronavirus is still fairly new and uncertain, there has been a study that suggested marijuana might be able to prevent or help treat COVID-19.

Hearing these stories on the news means that people might be purchasing more MMJ products in the hope that they might help with the virus as well.

How to get MMJ in Florida

Apply for an MMJ card in Florida by going to the state’s website or through the MMJRecs site. A physician will need to determine that you meet the eligibility requirements: that is, being a permanent resident of the state of Florida and having a qualifying medical condition.

Qualifying conditions can include (but are not limited to):

  • ALS
  • Cancer
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Epilepsy
  • Glaucoma
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Additional diagnoses such as anxiety, depression, and migraines might also qualify you for an MMJ card.

After it’s been determined that you have a medical condition that qualifies, the physician will forward their recommendation to the Florida Department of Health. You’ll be required to pay a state-required fee of $75 online and complete an application. You’ll then be approved within 7–21 business days and can purchase your MMJ products right away.

Why Is The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Industry Set To Hit $350M?

Recent years have seen Oklahoma marijuana on the rise – and that’s something of an understatement! The OK MMJ industry has positively sky-rocketed into the stratosphere since its birth in June 2018. The Oklahoma MMJ industry reaching $350M in sales is on the very near horizon. State authorities project that MMJ sales in OK will hit that huge number by the end of 2020, a mere 18 months since MMJ was legalized in the state.

Leading industry figures, campaigners, medical professionals, and would-be customers always predicted that the marijuana market in Oklahoma would prove popular and lucrative, but the truth has surpassed even the most confident predictions. So what has brought the Oklahoma medical marijuana industry up to $350M?

Oklahoma Tax Commission MMJ Sales Figures For 2019 Are Eye-Opening

Figures released by the Oklahoma Tax Commission have surprised even the most positive supporters of the medical marijuana market in Oklahoma. According to the official figures, medical marijuana sales in OK amounted to over $258 million in the first ten months of 2019 and will top $350 million by the end of the year. These numbers are staggering and surpass even the boldest sales projections that were being made before MMJ was legalized in the state.

Why Is Medical Marijuana So Popular In Oklahoma?

The Oklahoma MMJ industry reaching $350M is not such a giant surprise when you consider how popular MMJ has proven to be with patients and doctors in the Sooner State. Already, over 5% of Oklahoma citizens are registered MMJ users. This is the highest per capita usage of any state in the country.

The marijuana market in Oklahoma is huge – and for good reason. The industry is fantastically well-run, competition between sellers is massive, and the product is of very high quality. Red tape and government interference are virtually non-existent, so the industry is free to provide the customer with exactly what they desire. The OK MMJ market is the freest MMJ market in the country.

MMJ Qualifying Conditions In Oklahoma Are Extremely Liberal

Another reason why the marijuana market in Oklahoma is so vast is that the state has no hard and fast list of qualifying conditions. Unlike in most other states, the decision as to whether a patient would benefit from MMJ usage is left totally up to the discretion of the examining medical professional. This means a patient can get an MMJ card in Oklahoma if they suffer from any medical condition at all that they and their doctor believe could be helped by MMJ usage.

The Oklahoma MMJ Industry Provides Excellent Customer Service

Oklahoma MMJ city profits are huge because the product and customer service are just so good. The customer service at OK dispensaries, as well as the products available, is of a higher quality than in most other MMJ states. Under State Question 788, there are no limits on the number of business licenses that can be issued; this has led to a massive amount of dispensaries opening in the state – over 2,000 as of November 2019. This means that competition is rife, and unless customer service and product are top-quality, businesses will fail. This lack of government restriction enables the industry to provide its customers with the crème de la crème of MMJ programs, and so unsurprisingly, the industry booms.

The MMJ Industry Benefits From Oklahoma’s Libertarian Mindset

The marijuana market in Oklahoma benefits from the free-market ethos that exists in the state. Oklahomans tend to believe in small government. This helps the industry to provide exactly what the customer desires. This libertarian mindset has played a big part in the Oklahoma MMJ industry reaching $350M.

What Growth Is On The Horizon For Oklahoma In 2020?

With the Oklahoma MMJ industry reaching $350M in sales by the end of 2019, it is difficult to see anything but more impressive growth happening in 2020. There has been a huge uptake of MMJ licenses in the state, but it is still only approximately 5% of Oklahomans that have an MMJ license, so the market has a lot of room to expand.

With the free market offering up better and better customer service, as well as more innovative and high-quality products, it is easy to see the marijuana market in Oklahoma becoming a real industry leader – and the state becoming a mecca for medical marijuana innovation in 2020.

What Challenges Could The Oklahoma MMJ Industry Face In 2020?

The main challenge the OK MMJ industry faces in 2020 is government interference. But this seems unlikely to happen. The state government will not want to get in the way of what has proven to be an extremely popular and profitable industry that is bringing a lot of value to the state. And the federal government has shown no signs of wanting to get involved with how states manage their own MMJ programs.

How Can People Get An MMJ Recommendation In OK?

The best way to get an MMJ card in Oklahoma is to do it online via MMJRecs. This allows you to consult with an OK medical professional and get your MMJ license from the comfort of your own home.

With the Oklahoma medical marijuana industry up to $350M in sales, the state’s MMJ program has quickly become an industry leader and a shining beacon for other states. This is a great time to be an MMJ industry worker or customer in Oklahoma. Long may the golden age of Oklahoma MMJ continue!

Why Is Oklahoma The Fastest-Growing MMJ State In The US?

What is the fastest-growing medical marijuana state in the US? Only a few years ago, a lot of people thought that Oklahoma would never even get as far as legalizing medical marijuana. But it may surprise you to learn that Oklahoma is the nation’s fastest-growing MMJ state. In the space of fewer than eighteen months, MMJ has been fully legalized in the Sooner State, and the remarkable medical marijuana boom in Oklahoma has amazed industry insiders.

Since Oklahoma voted to legalize medical cannabis in June 2018, the OK MMJ industry has grown at a breakneck pace. Oklahoma has been the fastest-growing medical marijuana state bar none in 2019. The state’s MMJ patient uptake has been enormous – as of September 2019, 180,000 patient licenses have been issued. That is roughly 5% of the state’s population!

Why is the Oklahoma MMJ Industry Growing so Quickly?

In many ways, Oklahoma is a medical marijuana state like no other. The state has a pro-free-market ethos and especially values personal freedom and responsibility, and small government. This Oklahoma mindset has allowed the local MMJ industry to flourish and grow unencumbered by excessive red tape or overzealous local government interference. The only way the state authorities have interfered with the OK MMJ industry has been in imposing high quality-control standards.

MMJ Recs - Oklahoma city

There are several reasons why Oklahoma is the fastest-growing MMJ state in the US.

Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Provides Huge Health Benefits

The medical marijuana debate in Oklahoma was, for years, mainly a hot-button political issue. Virtue-signaling and point-scoring tended to get in the way of real, productive, science-based conversation. But since MMJ has been legalized, political arguing has given way to a widespread acceptance of the medicinal value of medical marijuana in Oklahoma.

Knowledge of the most up-to-date science – which shows how medical marijuana can help people who suffer from glaucoma, chronic pain, insomnia, and many other physical and psychological ailments – is now ubiquitous in the state. Oklahomans have become convinced of the positive health and quality-of-life benefits of medical marijuana.

MMJ in Oklahoma is an Alternative to Opioids and Prescription Medications

Oklahoma, like many states, has seen an opioid crisis take hold among certain sections of its population. More and more people have come to rely on opioids and prescription painkillers to help them cope with chronic pain conditions. These opioids and prescription painkillers can do great damage to a person’s liver and have negative effects on overall physical and mental health. In Oklahoma medical marijuana has proven to be a healthy, natural alternative medicine for these people.

Competition is Fierce, So Quality is High

The huge growth in the medical marijuana market in Oklahoma has led to a massive number of MMJ businesses opening in the state. As of September 2019, 2,000 dispensary licenses have been issued, as well as 4,000 growing licenses. The result of this enormous boom in Oklahoma MMJ businesses has been a fierce and healthy competition that is very good for MMJ patients.

With so many businesses vying for a share of the market, product quality is extremely high. The standard of medical marijuana produced in Oklahoma is second to none and dispensaries in the state are some of the best, most cutting-edge, and most educational in the US.

OK MMJ Dispensaries Put an Emphasis on Education

With such intense competition between dispensaries, companies need to set themselves apart. This is done by offering the best service possible, and a big part of this comes in the form of an emphasis on education. The best Oklahoma dispensaries offer their customers a rich and up-to-date education on all things MMJ.

Jazimine Ayres, from Green Country Bud dispensary in South Tulsa, says her main aim is to get to know her customers so well that she can educate them on exactly what MMJ products will suit them and their unique needs the best.

Many OK MMJ dispensaries are highly education-focused.

Oklahoma Has No List of Qualifying Medical Conditions to Get an MMJ License

A big reason why Oklahoma is the fastest-growing MMJ state in America is its lack of an imposed list of qualifying medical conditions. Oklahoma leaves prescription of medical marijuana completely at the discretion of the examining medical professional. This means that a physician can prescribe a patient an OK MMJ license for any medical condition that they deem would be helped by medical cannabis use.

How Can People Get an MMJ Card in Oklahoma?

The quickest and easiest way to get an Oklahoma medical marijuana license is to have an online consultation with a medical professional at MMJ Recs. Using this simple method, you can arrange a consultation and have your own OK MMJ card in no time at all.

Oklahoma has only had an MMJ industry for less than two years, but in that time the rapid growth of medical marijuana in OK has been nothing short of remarkable. Long may it continue!

8 Reasons Why The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Industry Will Grow And Grow

The Oklahoma medical marijuana industry only came into existence after a June 2018 vote, in which 57% of Oklahoman voters voted to legalize the sale, use, and growth of medical marijuana in the state. While this June 2018 genesis is later than in many other states, the speed at which the Oklahoma MMJ industry has grown in just over a year has been remarkable. The state now boasts the most liberal, patient- and business-friendly MMJ program in the United States.

The growth of the Oklahoma MMJ industry has been extremely rapid. Lots of Oklahoma MMJ jobs have been created, and the state legislature has kept bureaucracy and red tape to a refreshing minimum.

Here are eight reasons why the Oklahoma medical marijuana industry looks set to continue its rapid growth.

  1. Oklahoma’s Culture Supports Individual Freedom and Entrepreneurship

The state of Oklahoma has always had an ethos of promoting individual liberty and personal responsibility. Small government, private business, and taking responsibility for one’s own outcomes in life are all seen as very positive ideals in Oklahoma. 1. Oklahoma MMJ has Market-Leading Standards of Quality

The Oklahoma medical marijuana industry is very well run and provides excellent products. The Unity Bill dictates rules regarding product testing, labeling, packaging, and sales tracking. OK MMJ adheres to the highest quality standards and customer satisfaction is sacrosanct. The high-quality product patients have access to will undoubtedly lead to future growth in the Oklahoma MMJ industry.

  1. OK MMJ has an Excellent Track Record of Helping Patients

With such high-quality products and service, word will continue to spread about the massive benefits that medical marijuana use can have for patients. It is well documented that MMJ use is very helpful for patients with chronic pain, insomnia, glaucoma, and certain psychological issues, as well as a whole host of other medical conditions. Due to increasing awareness amongst Oklahomans of the stellar benefits of MMJ use, the MMJ industry in the state will continue its rapid growth.

  1. Support for OK MMJ from the Public, Local Politicians, and Business Leaders is High

Due to the many reasons already discussed – high-quality product, patient satisfaction, increased local employment, ease of navigating the system – the Oklahoma MMJ industry is enjoying solid support from the public, local politicians, and business leaders. With all this positivity in the air, and with so many people benefiting from its existence, it is difficult to imagine what could get in the way of the OK MMJ industry continuing its impressive rate of growth.
